Indonesia offers mysterious rainforests, exciting volcanoes and beautiful deep sea graves. Indonesia consists of more than 13,000 islands, but only 6,000 of these are inhabited. Some of the largest and most visited islands are Java, Bali, Sumatra and Papua. There are many unspoilt islands with spectacular mountains, green rain forests and sweeping waves.

Hike, surf and dive. Meet rockets, dolphins, lizards, rhinos and orangutans. Visit everything from traditional villages, world heritage sites, volcanoes and rivers. Spend time outdoors in nature and in temples or at the spa and the popular golf courses. Mix spectacular world-class diving with perfect surfing beaches and near-mountain climbing.

Bali – the world’s best island resort

Indonesia’s islands have something for everyone – whether you want your own beach, fill your days with diving, visit ancient temples or shop in thriving metropolitan areas. Bali is considered the world’s best island resort with its enchanting culture, beautiful beaches and rhythmic dances and music. New Guinea is shared between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Papua and West Papua belong to Indonesia and have both high mountains as well as rain forests.

Frequently asked questions about Indonesia

Do I need a visa to travel to Indonesia?

Yes, but it’s simple. Citizens of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark can enter Indonesia visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism (2025), as long as you arrive through an approved international airport (like Jakarta or Bali/Denpasar).
If you plan to stay longer, you’ll need to apply for a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or an e-VOA (electronic Visa on Arrival) online before departure.

When is the best time to travel to Indonesia?

The best time to visit is from May to September, during the dry season in most parts of the country—especially popular islands like Bali, Lombok, and Java. The rainy season (November to March) can bring heavy showers and make travel in remote areas more difficult.

What should I expect from Indonesian food and culture?

Indonesian cuisine is incredibly diverse, with influences from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Must-try dishes include nasi goreng (fried rice), satay (grilled skewers), and gado-gado (vegetables with peanut sauce).
Culturally, Indonesia is a rich mix—from Hindu temples in Bali, to Muslim traditions in Java, and indigenous crafts and dances in places like Sumatra and Sulawesi. Modest dress is appreciated outside tourist areas, and showing respect for local customs is key.
