The city’s history is world-renowned, it was divided into two parts and in 1961 the famous Berlin Wall was built, which did not fall until 1989. For the visitors with interest of world history, the tourist attraction Checkpoint Charlie is worth a visit. One of the most famous border crossings between East and West Berlin between 1945 and 1990 for soldiers, foreigners and diplomats from the West. The sign with “You are now leaving the American sector” still remains and indicates the passing. Today the border crossing is a tourist attraction with museums and realistic exhibitions that give a picture of the Cold War.

Berlin – the contrasts attract and surprise

But there is so much more than just history. The beautiful and breathtaking port of Brandenburg Gate is a famous symbol of the city. The botanical garden is 43 hectares and over has 22,000 different plant species – Europe’s largest botanical garden. In the city, Europe’s largest water park and adventure complex, Tropical Islands, can be explored. The Berlin cuisine still offers traditional cuisine but has very much adapted to international cuisine. Nightlife is something unique and attracts younger travelers from all over the world. The contrasts are many and fascinating.
